Hesperaloe parviflora (aka red yucca) puts on a delicious feast of color for dry gardens, with waxy tubular flowers that are coral-red on the outside and yellow inside, reminiscent of Aloe flowers. The long, narrow, blue-green leaves have deep grooves and white fibers along the edges. The ornamental evergreen foliage may blush slightly purple or reddish-bronze during chilly temperatures. Its clusters of flowers are borne on red stalks that go all the way up to 5 ft. or 6 ft. high. Use red yucca as an ornamental highlight in desert landscapes, rock gardens or perennial gardens, or on hillsides. This evergreen perennial succulent is heat-loving, drought tolerant and tolerant of cold down to zero F when established. Grows to 3 ft. to 4 ft. high and 2 ft. to 4 ft. W. Grows and flowers best in full sun. Adaptable to various soils but thrives in poor soils. Flowers Summer to Fall. Hardy to Zone 7a/0°F. Plant at least 3 ft. apart. For best performance, cut back every year in Spring after the last hard frost of season. Grows to 3 ft. to 4 ft. H and wide. Smart Planet offers a remarkable selection of drought-tolerant plants that are not only easier to care for, they’re mindful of our planet too. We believe there’s something special about working outside in the soil with plants or that one-of-a-kind feeling you get when tending to your indoor greenery.
